The Y8 Soccer Team

Limavady High School  3:2  Loreto College Coleraine
The Loreto 2018 year 8 soccer team began their league campaign with a tough trip away to Limavady High on Wednesday 3rd October.  The game was very keenly contested by both teams.  However, despite Loreto’s best efforts, they were beaten 3-2.  C. McCool and D. Laverty were Loreto’s goal scorers.  D. Laverty’s thunderous first time volley from over 30 yards out ending up in the bottom corner was the highlight of this particular game.

Loreto College Coleraine  5:0  Ballymoney High School
The day after Loreto’s opening game, they faced Ballymoney High at home.  With Loreto needing to get something from the game to kick-start their season, the pressure was slightly on them.  Needless to say, they handled that pressure and played a fantastic game of football.  Loreto finished with 5 goals which could have been a lot more had it not been for the brilliant Ballymoney goalkeeper.  E. Campbell and captain S. Devine both scored two. C. McCool scored the fifth with a trademark cool finish.  The highlight of the game was the fantastic work rate all the Loreto players which was key to the result.

Dalriada School  2:6  Loreto College Coleraine
Another tough away game to faced Loreto on Wed 10th October, where they met Dalriada at Megaw Park.  A must win mentality had descended on this driven Loreto team, which was fully expressed immediately from the kick-off.  An E.Campbell hat trick within the first 10 minutes of the game left Dalriada with a mountain to climb.  Dalriada scored 2 during the game but had most of their attacks thwarted by the Loreto defence of D. Laverty, J. McNicholl, E. Devlin and H. Hayes.  D. Hall in the Loreto goal swept up in ball which entered his box.  Three Loreto goals were scored in the second half.  S. Devine got two, one being a great solo effort and finish while the other was a penalty after C. McCool was brought down in the box.  H.Hayes capped off this performance with an excellent team goal involving R. Kelly, S. Devine and C. McCool.  The crossbar denied captain S. Devine his hat trick after an audacious lob from outside the box.  The highlight of the game was the box to box domination from midfield trio of L. Rogers, R. McNicholl and E. Kilmartin.
