Our traditional musicians have gone from strength to strength in recent years, with our top class group Tieg Tara winning through to the All Ireland Final of the Gael Linn Siansa competition, and this and the larger traditional group delighting audiences every year at the Spring Concert and other events.  Our musicians are pictured here at the 2018 Siansa and the 2018 Spring Concert.

Mrs Close, reporting from the Ulster Fleadh held in Castlewellan at the end of July, comments that the traditional music scene in Loreto looks more promising than ever, with several of our students (including some of our new Year 8s) doing very well in the competitive section of the event.  Those who took a first or second place qualified for the All Ireland Fleadh, which will be held in Drogheda on 18th and 19th August.

Congratulations to all of the following:
Peadar Connor, first in Miscellaneous (clarinet) age 12-15;
Conrad O Coisneachain, first in Uileann Pipes age 12-15;
Niamh Mooney, second in Harp age 15-18 and third in Flute age 15-18;
Dónal Close, second in Piano Accompaniment age 15-18;
Fearghal Close, second in Senior Grupai Cheoil with Crosskeys group;
Finn Mooney and Rónán Close, third as members of Crosskeys Ceili Band, age 12-15;

Well done also to Sinead Close and Aine McAllister, who join Loreto as Year 8s in September:  Sinead was placed second in Harp (Under 12) and Aine was placed third in the Grupai Cheoil and Ceili Band, again with the Crosskeys groups.

Congratulations to all these talented students on their achievements – we look forward to hearing more from them next term!
