The Loreto Year 11 boys took on Our Lady of Lourdes in their third group game of the competition. Loreto needed a win to ensure they were still in contention to place in the top two of the league in order to book a place in the final.  However, this was not to be, despite their best efforts.  Having to come back from being 2 goals down and playing against a very strong breeze, Loreto fought gallantly.  They clawed their way back into the game with a brilliant lob from Conor Rainey and a neat finish from Aaron Wallace leaving the score level at half time.  From the beginning of the second half, Loreto pressed hard for the win.  As Loreto pressed forward, Our Lady of Lourdes broke twice and scored twice, leaving Loreto with a mountain to climb.  The game ended with Our Lady of Lourdes winning a very entertaining game 4-2.

For periods of the game Loreto played excellent football, passing and moving quickly.  Christopher McNally and Conor Rainey posed a constant threat on the wings, while Aaron Wallace’s blistering pace kept the Our Lady of Lourdes’ sweeper on his toes.  The midfield three of Alex Mailey, Nicolas Moore and Joshua Stockman linked well together and worked extremely hard throughout the game.  The defence of Conall Friel, Pádraig Kelly and Thomas Mailey was solid, despite having to press forward for the majority of the game.  Team captain Charlie McKnight led by example throughout the game, embracing the captain’s role fantastically well as he has done throughout the league to date.

Well done to Our Lady of Lourdes and best wishes for the rest of the competition.
