As part of the Loreto Year 13 Religion Outreach Programme, students volunteered to become Faith Friends with pupils in local primary schools. Mrs McCarry and Ms Galbraith facilitated the Year 13s in preparing resources and arranging visits to the primary schools. A number of the Year 13s worked with P7 pupils from St. John’s Primary School, and others travelled to work with the P4 pupils in St. Malachy’s Primary School. The programme provides opportunity for the Year 13 students to be role models in faith development for the younger pupils, as they prepare for the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

On Monday 19th March 2018, the Loreto RE Department welcomed the pupils of both primary schools for Mass in Loreto’s own Convent Chapel. The theme of the Mass was, aptly, ‘Friendship’ and Fr Raymond McCullagh celebrated the Mass. The Loreto staff and students were delighted to welcome the staff of St Malachy’s PS – Mrs Burns, Mr Green and Ms Murray, and the staff of St. John’s PS – Mrs McDonnell and Mrs O’Neill. It was a lovely occasion, made very special by Fr McCullagh and the Loreto folk choir, led by Zara Leese.

The groups from all three schools gathered after Mass for refreshments, which also gave the students an opportunity to speak with their Faith Friends before they returned to school.

The staff of Loreto and the Year 13 Faith Friends, would like to say a special thank you to the staff and pupils of St Malachy’s and St. John’s, and wish them all a happy celebration of the sacraments in the weeks ahead.
