09/03/2018 MARY WARD PUBLIC SPEAKING COMPETITION 2018

The annual inter-Loreto Mary Ward Public Speaking Competition was hosted by Loreto Grammar School Omagh on Wednesday 7th March.

Students from Years 8-10 were asked to speak on a variety of relevant topics, with Year 8 students speaking for up to 3 minutes and Year 9/10 students speaking for up to four minutes.  The topics for Year 8 students were: Honesty is Always the Best Policy or Mary Ward, a Woman for All Seasons, while the topics for Year 9/10 students were: The Importance of Good Manners in Today’s Society or Mary Ward is Possibly the Most Remarkable Woman of the 17th Century.

The prizewinners were as follows:

Year 8: 1st :  Eilish Mc Caffrey ( Omagh), 2nd : Hannah- Ruth Mullan ( Coleraine), 3rd : Hannah Staats- Howard ( Coleraine).  Highly commended : Grace Dorrian, Molly  Mullan,  Abigail McMullan.  This was the first competition for these girls.

Year 9: 1st : Seana Keys ( Omagh), 2nd : Peter Mc Cool ( Coleraine ) & Zara Meegan ( Omagh), 3rd : Niamh Breslin ( Omagh).  Highly commended : Ellie Dillon, Aoife Mc Carry and Eva Mc Bride (all Coleraine).

Year 10: 1st : Ella Duffy ( Omagh), 2nd : Katie Mulholland ( Coleraine ) and 3rd : Eilish Keys (Omagh).

Congratulations to all the students from both schools on their participation, and to all the teachers who assisted and adjudicated, including Mrs Siobhan Mullan, Co-ordinator of Public Speaking at Loreto College Coleraine.
