26/01/2018 LORETO SUCCESS AT DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Cross country runners from Loreto College Coleraine had a successful day at the District Cross Country Championships on 25th January 2018, with several students qualifying for the Ulster Finals.

Over a tough 2500 metre course at the Ulster University, the Senior Girls team of Niamh Carr, Molly Brennan and Shakeera Nazeer were placed second overall, qualifying for the Ulster Finals.  Individually, Niamh Carr took a superb first place in the race, Molly Brennan was placed eighth and Shakeera Nazeer was twenty-first.

On an individual level, several students qualified for the Ulster Finals: Sophia Coyle (first in Year 8 Girls race), Niamh McGarry (second in Year 9 Girls race), Cara McLaughlin (seventh in Year 10 Girls race), Lauren Thom (thirteenth in Year 10 Girls race), Cormac Carr (sixth in Year 10 Boys race) and Oisin Brennan (thirteenth in Year 14 Boys race).

Loreto was also represented at the event by Joe Dillon, Michael Cunningham, Leon Boyd, Ryan McCloskey, Matthew Johnston, Johanna Staats-Howards, Faith Watt and Naomhe Guiney (all Year 8), Zofia Czajka (Year 9), Ronan Close, Eunan Boylan, Patrick Black, Josh Ferguson and Lucy O’Kane (all Year 10) and Tiernan Boylan (Year 11).

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated all these talented runners on their District success and wished the qualifiers well for the Ulster Finals, which take place on 21st February at Mallusk.
