07/12/2017 FUTURE STARS AWARD FOR LORETO GAELIC PLAYER

A Year 12 student has become Loreto College’s first ever winner of a Future Stars award from Queen’s University Belfast’s GAA club.

Aidan Gillen, who completes his GCSEs this year, won the award as a gaelic football goalkeeper.  A well-known footballing talent both in Loreto, in the Derry Minor panel and in his local club in Kilrea, Aidan has had a remarkable year in his favourite sport, playing both in goals and at centre half back.

Representing Kilrea, Aidan was a Derry Minor Championship winner and Ulster Minor finalist; he is also a member of the Derry Minor panel for 2018.  Representing Loreto, as a Year 11 student Aidan was goalkeeper for the College’s McLarnon Cup team – a team comprised mainly of sixth form students.  He was a member of the Ulster Schools Treanor Cup winning side and the Rannafast Shield winning side, the first win taking place in April 2017 and the second in early December.

Aidan was congratulated on this award by Mr Sean Murtagh, coach of the Loreto Treanor Cup, Rannafast Shield and McLarnon Cup teams, and by Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College.
