28/11/2017 NEBSSA CROSS COUNTRY TRIUMPH FOR LORETO COLLEGE RUNNERS

The Cross Country team from Loreto College Coleraine had a very successful day at the annual NEBSSA Cross Country Championship, held on 21st November at Ulster University Coleraine.  The students were formally presented with their medals and trophies at morning Assembly on Tueday 28th November.

A total of 29 runners represented Loreto at the event.  Among the Year 8 Girls, Sophia Coyle took first place and Layla O’Hara came second.  In the Year 9 Girls race, Niamh McGarry was placed second.  In the Year 10 Girls race, Cara McLaughlin took second place.

In the team event, the Loreto Year 8 Girls and Year 10 Girls teams both took first place.

Teacher Mrs Sheila McBroom, who organised the teams representing Loreto, paid tribute to Head of PE Mrs Maureen McCullough and colleagues Mrs Maeve Close and Mr John Kildea for their support and assistance on a very busy day of competition.

Mrs McBroom commented: ‘This is a fabulous set of results and each and every pupil ran to the very best of their ability. We were a very proud school leaving with two beautiful new NEBSSA trophies which will be presented to the teams in Assembly next week.’

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, congratulated all the students and their teachers on a wonderful and very successful day’s competition.
