15/11/2017 GAEILGE 24

On Tuesday 14th November all Loreto College Year 11, Year 12 and Year 13 Irish students undertook the ‘Gaeilge 24’ challenge, organised by Conradh na Gaeilge. The challenge is to speak Irish for a full 24 hours! Irish teachers Bean Uí Dhoinn and Iníon Mhic Alastair did their best to ensure that the students used Irish throughout the day as much as possible.

On Tuesday afternoon, the students involved participated in a range of activities to assist with the challenge and a lón gaelach took place in the Convent during period 6 lunchtime. Sweet treats and buns were available for those who called in for ceol, craic, cupán tae agus cúpla focail! Students then keenly contested in a variety of games in Irish including Cé mé?, Tóg amach mé and Is déagóir mé.

The students involved were given t-shirts by Conradh na Gaeilge to wear during these activities, as well as challenge stickers, phrase books and arm bands for the remainder of the day.

Irish Department members Bean Uí Dhoinn and Iníon Mhic Alastair paid tribute to the students for their enthusiasm and participation in the Challenge, which was greatly enjoyed by everyone.
