23/06/2017 LORETO COLLEGE MAKES DONATION TO ST VINCENT DE PAUL

The Loreto College sixth form Society of St Vincent de Paul group has presented a cheque for £591.65 to representatives of the St John’s, St Malachy’s and Dunboe chapters of St Vincent de Paul, following a busy year of fund-raising and activity in the service of others.

The Society of St Vincent de Paul is an international Christian voluntary membership organisation that tackles poverty and disadvantage by helping and supporting vulnerable people. Its main objective is the relief of poverty in all its forms without differentiation on the grounds of race, colour, creed, ideology or gender. Members look for opportunities to help those in need and, when asked, visit individuals and families where they are living and assess their needs.

The Loreto College Year 13 SVP group undertook frequent visits to the nearby Edenmore Nursing Home, as well as getting involved in a number of fundraising endeavours, including a sponsored walk and a Coffee Morning held in the Convent House and the annual Christmas Hamper collection.

Mrs Bernie Cosgrove and Mr Sean McGillan of the St John’s Parish Coleraine St Vincent de Paul group paid tribute to the efforts and dedication of the Loreto College sixth formers and Mr Conroy for their generous donation to a worthy cause which can give practical assistance to those who need it in the local area.
