Four talented young swimmers from Loreto College Coleraine won medals at the Ulster Age Group Championships held in Bangor during the first weekend of the Summer Term.  This was a very competitive event, with swimmers coming from all over Ulster.

Eoin Mullan, who is a Year 10 student at Loreto College, won a wonderful total of six Gold medals at the event, taking first place in the 400m Individual medley, 200m freestyle,  100m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 400 m freestyle, and 200m individual medley events.  Eoin is a member of the Ulster Development Squad and will now go on to compete in the Irish Age Groups championships in July.

Shannon Baird (Year 9) also participated in the Championships, winning two Bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle and the 100m Breaststroke events.  Shannon also recorded a Personal Best time in the 100m Freestyle. These swims have given Shannon qualifying times for the Irish Age Group Championships in July at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. A member of Ballymena Swimming Club, Shannon enjoys regular training with Swim Ulster Talent Development Squad in Magherafelt.

Orla Quinn (Year 9) reached three Finals: 100m Breastroke, 200m Breaststroke and 100m Backstroke, taking second place in the 100m Backstroke event.  Meanwhile Finn McEwan (Year 12) reached the 100m Breaststroke Final in his age group.  Placed seventh, he has also qualified for the Irish Age Groups championships.

All four talented young swimmers were congratulated on this successful day’s competition by Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, on behalf of all the staff and students of Loreto College.
