The Teachers in the Chemistry Department aim to stimulate students and create and sustain their interest in and enjoyment of, the study of Chemistry. We aim to provide a body of chemical knowledge appropriate for students and to promote in students an acquisition of knowledge and understanding of chemical patterns and principles.

Chemistry is taught from Year 8 Year 10 through a linear module system.

All students in Loreto College are required to study at least one science to GCSE and to achieve this all Year 11 students have the option of choosing either Double Award Science or 1-3 Single Sciences (CCEA Speifications). The Chemistry Department has worked tirelessly over the past few years to ensure that the majority of our superb resources are available to all our students electronically, via the Chemistry Websites - www.chemy.biz and www.eloreto.com & the school Intranet site. These include video lessons, past papers with mark schemes and interactive iquizzes.

In recent years the percentage of students taking Chemistry to AS and on to A2 Level has increased considerably, with Top Grades being achieved across the board.
